Tributary

Every coding agent, one stream of work: desktop app, VS Code extension and CLI

Year · 2026–presentBy Ayush Niroula

Desktop workbench for local coding agents on macOS, Windows and Linux. Tributary runs Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Antigravity through their native protocols, and OpenCode, Kimi, Goose, Qwen Code and others through the Agent Client Protocol, so you can switch agents mid-conversation with project context and handoffs. Start agent teams from chat, run background tasks in separate Git working copies and review diffs before merging. The workbench includes a file explorer, split editors, search, split terminals, project checks, a Node.js debugger, a preview browser and QA result views, plus local chat and a built-in coding agent on Ollama, LM Studio or Unsloth with command approvals. Teammates can join a hosted project room on the local network while agents keep running on their owners' computers.

Highlights

  • Native adapters for Claude Code and Codex, plus ACP for a growing list of third-party agents
  • Agent teams and background tasks run in separate Git working copies, reviewed as real diffs before merge
  • In a 40,000-line TypeScript fixture, editor allocation dropped 73% while typing and 69% during live updates (before/after Tributary builds)
  • CI builds a versioned preview with SHA-256 checksums for six platform and architecture variants on every main push
